Fourth NLI signee this offseason

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball coaching staff has announced an additional National Letter of Intent signee for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Joining the Lady Golden Bulls from Bamberg Middle High School in Bamberg, Germany is forward/center Racquel Davis

Davis, a 6'1 native of Brooklyn, New York, averaged 27 points and 16 rebounds per game for Bamberg in her senior season. Davis transferred from Bushwick High in Brooklyn, NY to Bamberg High in February 2009 because of military duty (parents). While at Bamberg, Davis was named to the 2010 DoDDs-Europe Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team, DoDDs-Europe European Region III All-Region 1st Team, and DoDDs-Europe European Basketball Champion Most Valuable Player.

In her final season at Bushwick High in Brooklyn, NY, Davis averaged 22.8 points and 14 rebounds per game. She was team captain her sophomore and junior season at Bushwick, as well as receiving MVP and academic honors during the 2008-09 season. Her coaches have stated her strengths as being an excellent rebounder on both sides of the floor, good vertical leaper, great finisher in traffic, and has strong work ethic.

“We're excited about bringing this young abroad to our basketball team,” said head coach Vanessa Taylor. “Racquel has a lot of potential to success in our conference (CIAA) and her experience playing in New York and overseas makes her more well-rounded then most freshmen. Most importantly, she allows us to improve our depth in the post.”

Earlier in the offseason, the coaching staff announced the signings of forward Shayla Russell, guard Alexcia Barnes, and guard/forward Chante' Bell

Aside from playing basketball, Davis plans to pursue a degree in secondary education and work towards becoming a veterinarian.
