Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team defeated Fayetteville State University 9-0 Tuesday afternoon in CIAA Western Division competition at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts. JCSU improves to 4-9 overall and 3-1 in the conference and division.
In the number one doubles match, senior

Samantha Barnes (Hampton, VA) easily topped Shontana Donegan and Kristy Mitchell 8-1 for the first point. Sophomore
Rolanda Sue (Charlotte, NC) and freshman
Margaret Jones (Newport News, VA) blanked Amber Mitchell and Tiane Ellis 8-0 in No. 2 doubles. Junior
Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore
Camille Allen (Teaneck, NJ) closed out Danielle Boone and Schanelle Ebanks 8-3 in the third doubles spot.
Johnson C. Smith did not allow more than one match point per set in each singles contest. Barnes led the charge with a victory (6-0, 6-1) over Donegan in No. 1 singles. Captain Jae Hargett followed with a sweep (6-0, 6-0) against Amber Mitchell in the number two doubles position.
J.C. Smith has not lost a match to Fayetteville State since 2008
The Golden Bulls have tuned up for the CIAA Roundup which will be held March 19-21 in Petersburg, VA. JCSU will face CIAA Eastern Division opponents over the weekend at the Virginia State University tennis courts.
