McKenzie Bean earned CIAA Men's Rookie of the Year honor playing mostly at the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles
Petersburg, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association named the 2010 All-CIAA Men's Tennis Team on Wednesday evening during the Spring Sports Championship Awards Ceremony held inside Harris Hall on the campus of Virginia State University. Sophomore
McKenzie Bean (Hamilton, Bermuda) has been named CIAA Rookie of the Year, while teammates
Jason Stuckey (Cincinnati, OH),
Aaron Hutcherson (Cincinnati, OH), and
Jamil Jones (Atlanta, GA) earned all-conference honors.
Bean has played in the No. 2-4 singles and No. 2 doubles slot with partner
Robert Butts. Bean mostly competed in No. 3 singles with a 17-11 overall and 10-2 CIAA record in singles competition.
Senior captain Jason Stuckey, a business administration major, competed in No. 1 singles and doubles with partner and co-captain Hutcherson all season for JCSU. He ended his 2010 campaign 16-9 and 9-3 in the CIAA for singles action.
Hutcherson played at the No. 3 and 4 singles positions. He finished the year 3-6 at number three and an impressive 14-4 at the number four spot. Hutcherson won seven of his last eight matches, including a two-match winning streak to end the regular season. The pair of Hutcherson and Stuckey compiled a 17-11 overall record and 9-4 standing in the conference.
Third time all conference selection
Jamil Jones played at the fifth singles spot. Jones established himself with a 20-7 overall record and as the only Golden Bull to go unbeaten (12-0) in singles competition against CIAA opponents. Jones played No. 3 doubles with partner
Jerald Stuckey (Cincinnati, OH) and recorded a 12-11 overall mark and 7-2 record in the CIAA. The duo was 8-2 in their last 10 matches.
Johnson C. Smith has advanced to the finals of the 2010 Men's Tennis Championships, but fell to the reigning champion Shaw Bears. Jones was the only CIAA opponents to defeat Shaw this season at the No. 5 singles position.
