Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 11, 2015) – Membesr of the Johnson C. Smith University football team recently took time out of their day and traveled to two local elementary schools to spend the day with students.

The trip, as part of the JCSU football team's commitment to giving back to the community, assisted the teachers and read to kindergarteners and first-graders during their visits.  Four student-athletes visited Druid Hills Elementary while 10 visited Bruns Academy.

"Our student-athletes enjoy going and interacting with the kids," said assistant coach Shelton Bynum.  Bynum also said the players look forward to visiting the students several times every year.

From the moment of the arrival of the JCSU team, the students are truly engaged and are genuinely enthralled with the reading lessons.  "It's obvious that the students are learning, and are excited about learning," said Bynum.

Sophomore defensive back Darryl Napper (Winston-Salem, N.C.) said that he enjoyed being with the students and answering their questions.  "The opportunity to help the kids improve on their reading skills is fulfilling," said Napper.  "They ask a lot of questions, and it's fun to see their faces light up when you tell them of your experiences.
