All-Academic Status Earned by 67 DII Teams

New Orleans, LA – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the women's 2010 Division II All-Academic Track & Field Teams. A total of 67 institutions, including Johnson C. Smith University, earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.

The JCSU Women's team earned the All-Academic Team Award with a 3.56 team grade point average. The Lady Golden Bulls track and field team had the third highest GPA of the 67 All-Academic teams for the 2010 track and field season.

The women's track & field teams at Ashland University and Grand Valley State University were named Scholar Teams of the Year in Division II for the 2010 seasons by the USTFCCCA. The squads earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively.

“This is a great distinction for our program; these young ladies have worked very diligently in the classroom and this is just as important as All-American status,” said JCSU head track and field coach Lennox Graham. “I'm pride of those individuals who earned All-Academic status and our team, I'm confident our men's team will be recognized as well.”

Incarnate Word posted the nation's highest cumulative GPA through the winter 2010 term with a 3.64. Northern Kentucky was next at 3.61.

Five Johnson C. Smith University female track and field student-athletes were amongst a record total of 276 announced on the women's 2010 Division II All-Academic Track & Field team by the USTFCCCA.

Those JCSU student-athletes that earned All-Academic status are: graduate Nikki Boston (Vidalia, GA), junior Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica), junior Monique Kelly (St. Andrew, Jamaica), sophomore Xahnn-Georgia Reid (Clarendon, Jamaica), and senior Shermaine Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica).

The list of men's squads to reach All-Academic status in Division II will be announced on Tuesday, August 3.
