LaQwesha Gamble and
Shavonda Price have been selected to the 2011-12 Boxtorow Division II Women's Basketball HBCU All-American Second Team. As a team, the Golden Bulls finished No. 2 behind NCAA DII national champions Shaw University in the DII/NAIA Top 10 Women's HBCU Basketball Poll by Boxtorow.
Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive season and her first All-American selection. She played in all 29 games and started 26, including the opening round of the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Tournament. Gamble finished second on the team in scoring and first in rebounding, averaging a double-double of 14.3 points and 11.3 boards per game. She ranked 2nd in the CIAA and 14th in the NCAA DII for rebounds and 12th in the conference for scoring.
Gamble produced 13 double-doubles this year and had season-highs of 25 points and 19 rebounds. She concluded the season ranked 12th in the NCAA DII for double-double performances.
Price (Fort Wayne, IN) has been selected for the first time to the All-CIAA team and as an All-American as the top scorer for the Golden Bulls. She also played in all 29 games and started 24. Price finished 4th in the CIAA for points per game, averaging a team-high 14.6 points.
Price was also 4th in the league for steals. She had a team-high total 71 steals this year with an average of 2.4 steals per game.
The Golden Bulls ended the 2011-12 season with a 22-7 record, a return trip to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament Finals, and a repeat appearance in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. JCSU debuted at the No. 24 spot in the week 10 USA Today/ESPN DII Top 25 poll. This season, the team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional rankings.
Aslea Williams of Shaw was selected Boxtorow Most Valuable Player. She finished third in the CIAA in scoring (15.5) and fifth in rebounding (8.9). Her 16 double-doubles led the league and tied her for 11th nationally. Williams was also named the CIAA Tournament and Atlantic Regional Tournament MVP.
Joining Williams in the frontcourt is teammate Kyria Buford, and Saint Augustine's Keyona Bryant.
