Philadelphia, PA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's and men's outdoor track and field team had six competitors from each squad producing at the 2012 Penn Relays held at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus. Events took place April 26th through April 28th.
Freshman
Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) clocked 59.26 for 5th overall and senior
Sasha-Gay Cunningham (Clarendon, Jamaica) timed in at 61.92 for 27th overall in the women's collegiate 400m hurdles. Both are best times for each. Elliott once again set a new school record in the 400m hurdles with this performance. She previously established the record with a run of 59.29 at the Auburn Track Classic on April 6, 2012.
Freshman
Monique Lovelock (St. Catherine, Jamaica) had a mishap at the number seven hurdle in her event and finished in 66.71 seconds. Junior
Xahnn-Georgia Reid (Clarendon, Jamaica) cleared 1.64m for 13th in the high jump. She returned for a leap of 5.63m to claim 21st in the long jump event. The quartet of Lovelock, junior
Naffene Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica), sophomore A'tyan Kennedy (York, SC), and Elliott clocked 3:48.23 for 42nd overall in the 4x400m relay for college women.
On the men's side, sophomore
Randale Watson (Kingston, Jamaica) managed a throw of 13.91m in the shot put. Watson pushed through the cold weather conditions, but the toss was below his normal performances and good enough for 22nd position.
The 4x400m team (3:11.03) later qualified for the 4x4 college finals and only missed the championship of America finals by two places. Sophomore
Horane Holgate (14.24m) was also affected by the temperature and below his usual performance level; he placed 12th in the triple jump.

Akino Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) captured 2nd place in the college men 4x400m in 3:10.46 seconds.
All student-athletes in the post season will complete final tune up and qualification chances at the Georgia Tech last chance qualifier on May 14, 2012. This will determine the final qualifiers for the 2012 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships.
