Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University golf team currently sits in fourth place out of seven competing teams in the 2014 CIAA Southern Division Golf Tournament held on Monday, March 10th. The Golden Bulls have a day-one score of 330 (+42) at Larkhaven Golf Course. The tournament is being played on a par 72, 6,717-yard course.
Virginia State has a first place score of 296 (+6) after the first day of competition. Fayetteville State shot a 312 for second, followed by Chowan in third with a score of 329 (+41). Matt Genchi of Virginia State sits atop of the leaderboard shooting 68 (-4) on day one. Austin Ayers of Virginia State and Brandon Jobe of Fayetteville State are tied for second individually with a score of 74 (+2).

Calvin Mason (Suffolk, VA) leads the Golden Bulls with a score of 79 (+7). Junior teammate
Johanan Edmeade (Virgin Island, U.S.) is following close behind with a score of 80 (+8). Mason is tied for 11th, while Edmeade is tied for 13th.

Brencis Stanford (Greenwood, SC) finished the first day in 20th individually, shooting 85 (+13) on day one. Sophomore Steven Graddick (Charlotte, NC) is tied for 21st with a score of 86 (+14).
Rounding out the remaining competing teams are Livingstone in fifth (347 | +59), Elizabeth City State in sixth (405 | +117), and Virginia Union in seventh (409 | +121).
The second and final day of competition will continue on Tuesday, March 11th. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the Larkhaven Golf Course.
