Lady Golden Bulls finished behind defending CIAA Champions, FSU

Charlotte, NC - The JCSU women's bowling team finished second in the CIAA Western Divisional Meet held March 6th-8th at the AMF University North Lanes. The Lady Golden Bulls scored 15 total match points, only trailing Fayetteville State University (24 points).

Each of the five schools in the Western Division (JCSU, FSU, LC, SAC, and Shaw) participated in this three-day event. St. Augustine's finished third, followed by Shaw, and Livingstone.

The top JCSU bowlers on day one were sophomore Sasha Thornhill and junior Charmaine Ellis. Thornhill averaged 156 in five games, followed Ellis with 155. J.C. Smith averaged 705 as a team. On day two, Thornhill's average improved to 171. Junior captain Nijah Braddox contributed to the team's 717 day two average with a 156 individual average throughout the five games.

On the final day, the Lady Golden Bulls finished 3-1 in baker's match competition. JCSU's only loss was to Fayetteville State by 12 pins (776-764) in the third match. J.C. Smith took second place in the event with 19 event points (15 - team match, 4 - bakers) and 7111 total pins.

JCSU improves to 8-4 overall and in the CIAA. The Lady Golden Bulls will now prepare for the CIAA Bowling Championships set to take place on March 21st - 24th in Durham, NC.
