The Golden Bulls now prepare for the spring season, which kicks off on February 3, 2010 vs. Augusta State
Institute, WV - The JCSU men's tennis team blanked West Virginia State University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at WVSU tennis courts. The Golden Bulls completed their fall schedule with a 2-5 overall record. JCSU is one of the few schools in the CIAA that tune up for the spring tennis season with a fall schedule.
Senior Jason Stuckey beat Nick Anderson (6-1, 6-0) in two sets at the number one singles flight. Sophomore McKenzie Bean, senior Aaron Hutcherson, and sophomore Robert Butts competed at the number two, three, and four singles position, respectively. Each won their flight by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Jamil Jones dominated against Brian Wooten 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth singles spot. Sophomore Jerald Stuckey completed the singles sweep with a win over Jason Thaxton in three sets. (4-6, 6-4, 10-6).
Jason Stuckey and Hutcherson teamed together at the number one doubles position, Bean and Butts was the number two doubles team, and Jerald Stuckey and Jones paired up at the third doubles spot. All three teams won their flight for a 9-0 win over WV State.
This was the second victory this season for the Golden Bulls. JCSU also defeated Shepherd University during their fall non-conference schedule.
J. C. Smith will return to the court in the spring to face Augusta State University on February 3, 2010 in Augusta, GA. Match play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
