Introduction
The 2021-22 academic year marks the third year of an expanded relationship with Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) in which Atrium provides a dedicated team of full-time outreach certified athletic trainers on site at Johnson C. Smith. While Atrium Health has assisted JCSU Athletics in various capacities for several years, the increased involvement will help provide the very best in medical care for each Golden Bull student-athlete.
Aside from the certified athletic training staff on campus, JCSU's medical group consists of team primary care physician, Dr. David Price (Atrium), team orthopedic physician Dr. Dana Piasecki (OrthoCarolina), orthopedic physician's assistant Margaret Lynch (OrthoCarolina), and team dentist, Dr. Derek C. Barnes, D.M.D.

JCSU Sports Medicine Mission Statement
The JCSU Sports Medicine staff works as an integrated multidisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide medical support for every intercollegiate student-athlete. The staff is devoted to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries while maximizing athletic performance and assuring access to the finest health care possible in coordination with Atrium Health. Through patient care and education, we strives to provide Golden Bull student-athletes a competitive edge through access to high quality healthcare.
