JCSU MEN’S TENNIS SEASON IS IN FULL GEAR, DESPITE 6-3 LOSS TO CATAWBA

Fall schedule underway

Salisbury, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University men's tennis team fell to Catawba College 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. JCSU moves to 1-2 overall, while the Indians improve to 2-0 for the season.

In doubles action, seniors Jason Stuckey and Aaron Hutcherson picked up an 8-6 win in the number one position over Uri Yarkoni and Tom McCormack. Alex Macdonald and Thomas Mitchell topped sophomores McKenzie Bean and Robert Butts 8-1 at the number two doubles spot. Junior Jamil Jones and sophomore Jerald Stuckey fell to Shaun Bridgewater and Alex Kalmbach 8-1 at the number three doubles.

Jason Stuckey defeated Alex Macdonald 6-2, 6-3 at the number one singles position. Butts was successful against Tom McCormack in three sets (4-6, 7-6, 7-6) at the number four singles.

The season kicked off on September 15, 2009 versus Concord University in Athens, WV. The combination of Ja. Stuckey and Hutcherson won 8-4 in the number doubles position and Bean and Butts picked up an 8-6 victory. Unfortunately, the Golden Bulls fell to Concord 6-3.

JCSU bounced back with an 8-1 victory over Shepherd University on September 19th in Shepherdstown, WV.

The Golden Bulls next match will be at home against Queens (NC) University on Friday, September 25th. Match play is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm on the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts.
