Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team dominated St. Augustine's College (12-0, 13-1) on Friday afternoon in home season finale at Biddleville Park. JCSU improves to 14-18 overall, 8-5 in the CIAA, and 6-2 in the Western Division.

The Lady Golden Bulls recognized their senior student-athletes in between games. The team sent centerfielder Mauranda Elliott (Tabor City, NC), outfielder Rashondae Henderson (Caruthersville, MO), and first baseman Nijah Braddox (Brooklyn, NY) off with two very impressive victories.

Game one got out of control for the Lady Falcons in the second inning. Already up 2-0, JCSU scored seven runs in the bottom of the second. Junior catcher Samantha Smith (Whiteville, NC) batted in Henderson and sophomore outfielder Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) with a single over the second baseman's head.

Braddox and junior flex Kawehi Chan (Honolulu, HI) both were credited with 2 RBIs apiece in the second. St. Augustine's gave up three more runs in the third. Freshman shortstop Alexandria Buckley(Charlotte, NC) and junior pitcher Allycia Watanabe (Waipahu, HI) both stole home plate on wild pitches. Elliott smacked an RBI single to score Braddox and account for the 12-0 deficit.

Game one was called in the fifth inning due to the NCAA eight run rule. Watanabe pitched the scoreless game for J.C. Smith with six Ks, no walks, and only three hits.

Dominique Brown scored for SAC in the first to avoid another scoreless contest. Unfortunately, that would be the lone run scored for the Lady Falcons. Smith responded for JCSU with a homerun at the top of the batter order. The game went downhill from there. Johnson C. Smith finished the inning with two hits and three runs.

The Lady Golden Bulls jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second with six hits and six runs. In the fourth JCSU put four more runs on the scoreboard, including another homer. With Chan on second, Henderson blasted a shot to the right centerfield fence. Henderson put on the jets and recorded 2 RBIs with an inside the park homerun.

With a 13-1 lead after the fifth, JCSU picked up another quick victory.

The schedule for Johnson C. Smith is narrowing down, but they face division leader Chowan University on Wednesday, April 7 in Murfreesboro, NC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm in the final conference doubleheader.
