Leford Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica) earned his second gold medal and helped Jamaica establish a new championship record in the men's 4x400m relay at the 21st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games. Green, along with countrymen Oral Thompson, Roxroy Cato, and Allodin Fothergill posted a time of 3:01.68 to take first place.
Green, who was also the 400m hurdles winner, ran the second leg of the 4x400 relay. Teammates Oral Thompson, Roxroy Cato, and 400m runner-up Allodin Fothergill combined efforts to set a new Games record in the 4x400m Relay, just a tenth of a second faster than the time clocked by another Jamaican quartet in Cartagena 2006. Green has run on both squads.
Bahamas came a close second in 3:01.82, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago (3:04.07), the Dominican Republic (3:04.68) and hosts Puerto Rico (3:04.98).
Green adds two CAC gold medals to an outstanding year in track and field. This season he was named the 2010 Regional and National Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as well as earning his third All-American honor. Green also received 2010 DII All-Academic Track & Field honors.
Green steps back into competition for JCSU during the 2010 Cross Country season for the Guilford College Invitational on September 4th in Greensboro, NC.
