Albuquerque, NM – The Johnson C. Smith University men's indoor track and field team finished 11th out of a field of 45 at the 2011 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships held March 11-12th inside the Albuquerque Convention Center. JCSU had representation in three events for the finals and earned a total of 20 team points.
Abilene Christian finished first overall to capture the men's title with 49 points out of the 16 events scored. St. Augustine's placed sixth with 29 points, St. Paul's took 32nd with 4.50 points, and Bowie State finished 38th with 3 points to round out the CIAA competitors.
Senior
Leford Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica) won the crown in the 400 meter dash with a time of 46.38 for first place. Green improved from his preliminary time of 47.11 the day before. By winning first, Green earned 10 team points for the Golden Bulls.

Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica),
Akino Ming (Portland, Jamaica),
Jamille Callum (Orleans, MA), and Green edged CIAA rival St. Augustine's for first place with a time of 3:09.17. JCSU picked up 10 more team points with the victory.
Junior
Andre Collins (Kingston, Jamaica) was disqualified due to a false start in the 60 meter hurdles. Tyler Sipes of Grand Canyon won first clocking in at 7.75; which was the only finals time better than Collins' preliminary time of 7.84 the day before.
Four Golden Bull men earned All-American status at the championships. Each participant who finished in the top eight of his respective event gained the honor. All four men from the 4x400 relay team took home All-American awards and Green earned an additional award for his performance in the 400m dash.
With indoor season at a conclusion, Johnson C. Smith will begin the outdoor track and field season on March 18th at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic in Charlotte, NC.
