Blacksburg, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's track and field team participated in the Virginia Tech Last Qualifier in the Rector Field House for an opportunity to tune up and improve rankings before the 2011 NCAA DII Indoor Championships. A total of 10 student-athletes competed this weekend and individual titles were won on both the men's and women's side.

Senior Shermaine Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) ran a season best 8.18 in the 60m hurdles to claimed first. Williams returned to capture second in the 200m with a time of 24.35. She will compete in both events during the national championships. Junior Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica) finished second to only her teammate in the 60m hurdles with a personal best 8.27. Carty is also headed to nationals in the 60m hurdles.

Freshman Danielle Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) recorded personal best in the 60m hurdles (8.35) and the 60m dash (7.56) in Blacksburg. Freshman Naffene Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica) produced new best times in the 400m (57.10) and 200m (25.10).

The qualifier was also useful for junior Monique Kelly (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and senior Lakaevia Tyler (Miami, FL). Kelly timed in at 57.77 in the 400m and Tyler at 59.15, both were personal best. Each of these Lady Golden Bulls will compete in the national championships for their respective events.

Senior Leford Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica) claimed the crown in the 400m dash with a time of 47.34. Sophomores Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and Jamille Callum (Orleans, MA) also ran in the 400m dash and took fifth and sixth, respectively. Brown had a time of 48.89, followed by Callum in 49.34.

Junior Andre Collins (Kingston, Jamaica) finished in sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.11. All four Golden Bulls rank nationally in their respective events and will participate in the national championships.

The Golden Bulls will head to the 2011 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Albuquerque, NM March 10-12th.
