Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team suffered two non-conference losses (22-4, 12-8) against Montreat College on Wednesday afternoon inside Biddleville Park. JCSU moves to 1-7 in the overall standings, while the Cavaliers improve to 2-2.

The Golden Bulls dug themselves into an insurmountable hole in game one. Montreat had a 22-1 lead after five innings. Senior captain Samantha Smith (Whiteville, NC) scored a run in the first inning by stealing home on a wild pitch.

Smith scored another in the fifth, along with senior Elizabeth McElveen (Florence, SC) and sophomore Jena Rae Serranzana (Panorama, City, CA). Unfortunately, those runs were too little, too late as Montreat earned victory due to the NCAA eight-run rule.

Game two was much more tightly contested. Johnson C. Smith held a 7-4 advantage after three innings. The Cavaliers outscored JCSU 8-1 in the last four innings for the win. The Golden Bulls had 11 hits and eight RBIs in the second game.

Johnson C. Smith returns to the diamond on Friday, February 24th against Virginia University of Lynchburg. First pitch in this non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Biddleville Park.
