Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team finished 2-4 in the CIAA Roundup held March 9-11 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Golden Bulls faced all six schools from the Northern Division. JCSU moves to 8-13 in the overall standings and 2-4 in the CIAA.

Box Score vs. Lincoln (PA)
On the first day of action, Johnson C. Smith played Lincoln (PA) and Virginia State.  The Golden Bulls blasted Lincoln 14-3 in five innings. The game was called in the fifth due to the NCAA eight run rule. JCSU scored four runs in the second; then banged out 10 runs in the fourth. Senior catcher Samantha Smith (Whiteville, NC) led the way with three hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored.

Senior Tenesha Simmons (Melbourne, FL) recorded the win on the mound. She only allowed four hits and walked one with two strikeouts off 19 at-bats.

Box Score vs. Virginia State
Later in the evening, JCSU dropped the second contest 8-5 to Virginia State. The Lady Trojans produced three runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-4 lead. Smith smacked a homerun to left field in the seventh to draw within three. Unfortunately, that would be the final hit and score for the Golden Bulls.

Box Score vs. Chowan
JCSU went 0-2 on the second day of competition against Chowan and Elizabeth City State. The Hawks had too much offensive firepower for the Golden Bulls to match. Both teams had seven runs after two innings of play. But Chowan outscored JCSU 11-3 over the next five innings, producing at least one run in every inning played.

Box Score vs. ECSU
After putting up 10 runs against Chowan, JCSU only managed to score two runs versus ECSU. Smith and senior Elizabeth McElveen (Florence, SC) had the team's only runs in the first inning. The Lady Vikings tied the game 2-2 in the second. Additional runs were scored in the fifth and seventh innings for a 5-2 ECSU victory.

Box Score vs. VUU
Simmons pitched her second win of the weekend against Virginia Union. JCSU defeated the Lady Panthers 7-4 behind Simmons' arm. Junior infielder Alexandra Buckley (Charlotte, NC) stepped up with two RBIs, two hits, and one run scored.

Box Score vs. Bowie State
The final contest of the weekend was against Bowie State. After four scoreless innings, the Lady Bulldogs tallied eight runs in the fifth. Johnson C. Smith lost in the sixth due to the NCAA eight run rule by a score of 10-2.
