Green competed out of lane eight

London, U.K. – Johnson C. Smith University alumnus Leford Green wrapped up his Olympic debut with a 7th place finish in the 400m hurdles at the 2012 Summer Olympics on Monday afternoon. Green represented the country of Jamaica and competed out of the eighth lane to clock at time of 49.12.

Most track and field aficionados will attest that competing out of the eighth, far right lane is the most difficult in a race of this nature. The challenge of running out of the eighth lane in the 400m is gauging your performance against the fellow competitors. Green started off strong in the first 100 meters, but after rounding the corner it was clear he could be outmatched.

Felix Sanchez from the Dominican Republic won gold with a season best time of 47.63, followed by Michael Tinsley from the United States (47.91) and Javier Culson from Puerto Rico (48.10).

Green, a native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, is the first Golden Bull Olympian since Vincent Matthews won a gold medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. Upon the conclusion of the Olympics, Green will continue to tour Europe and compete in various events.

Green still holds the crown as the three-time 400m hurdles Jamaican national champion.
