Box Score
Winston-Salem, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team wilted in the frigid weather against Virginia State University, resulting in a 12-3 loss on Sunday morning during the CIAA cross-divisional roundup hosted by Winston-Salem State at Washington Park. JCSU falls to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Golden Bulls appeared to be physically bothered by the cold weather throughout the day. Virginia State managed to get outs on the first three batters in the first and second innings. Meanwhile, JCSU allowed three runs in both the second and third innings to fall behind 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third.

Sophomore Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, GA) and junior Britney Warren (Atlanta, GA) both hit singles and eventually crossed home plate in the third. Virginia State held a 6-2 advantage until the fifth inning of the contest.

A double by sophomore Maci Black (Greensboro, NC) followed by a RBI double by Anderson put a run on the board for the Golden Bulls. JCSU appeared to be making a comeback going into the sixth inning down 6-3. However, four hits and several errors results in six runs for the Lady Trojans.

VSU won the game 12-3 in the sixth due to the NCAA-eight run rule. Sophomore Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, NY) was charged with the loss at the mound. Peralta had two strikeouts and allowed 16 hits and 12 runs.

The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team will host their annual “Strike Out Cancer” game on Tuesday, February 19th at Biddleville Park. The Golden Bulls will challenge Benedict College in the non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
