Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3
Box vs. Bowie State | Box vs. Lincoln (PA) | Box vs. Virginia Union

Richmond, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team beat Lincoln University of Pennsylvania (13-3), but lost to Bowie State University (10-4) and Virginia Union University (8-3) during the CIAA cross divisional roundup hosted by Virginia Union at the Parker Field. JCSU moves to 4-9 in the overall standings and 2-3 in the conference.

JCSU scored their only runs against Bowie State in the third and fourth innings. Sophomore outfielder Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, GA) and senior Alexandra Buckley (Charlotte, NC) both tallied the only hits and runs scored in the third. The Golden Bulls trailed 4-2 going into the fourth inning.

Sophomore first baseman Kenya Austin (Virginia Beach, VA) and Anderson both singled in the fourth. However, junior Ashton Byrd (Atlanta, GA) managed to reach base and eventually score off fielding errors by the Lady Bulldogs. JCSU faced a 4-3 deficit heading into the fifth.

BSU put up five runs in the fifth and scored one additional run in the seventh. Junior Britney Rowe (Cincinnati, OH) smacked a RBI single up the middle to bring home Byrd for the final Golden Bulls' run. Both sophomore Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman Melissa Vierra (Tracy, CA) pitched in game one. Peralta pitched four innings and racked up three strikeouts.

The Golden Bulls defeated the Lady Lions of Lincoln (PA) in five innings due to the NCAA eight-run rule. Lincoln fell behind 5-0 before reaching the bottom of the third. JCSU gave up four hits and three runs in the bottom of the third. However, those would be the only runs scored for Lincoln in the contest.

JCSU produced eight runs in the last two innings, including a six-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Buckley had three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored off five at-bats. Rowe scored three runs, along with a hit and a RBI in the victory.

Vierra was credited with the win on the mound with four strikeouts.

The third and final game of the roundup was more of a defensive joust between JCSU and Virginia Union. The Lady Panthers got off a good start with four runs in the first. Anderson responded in the second with a solo homerun to centerfield, which put the Golden Bulls on the scoreboard initially.

JCSU added three hits and two runs in the third inning to draw closer. Vierra began the inning with a homer to left field. Austin scored the other run off a RBI single from Rowe. Unfortunately, VUU added two runs in both the third and fourth innings to account for the final score. The fifth through seventh innings were scoreless.

Both Vierra and Peralta pitched, but Vierra is charged with the loss. Vierra pitched four innings and threw four strikeouts.

The Golden Bulls return home for their next matchup against Chowan University on Saturday, March 16th. First pitch in this CIAA doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
