Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team blasted Morris College (S.C.) in both games of a non-conference doubleheader (13-4, 10-0) on Thursday afternoon at Biddleville Park. JCSU improves to 10-23 overall with the victories.
Despite a delayed arrival, Morris got off to a good start for game one. The Lady Hornets produced three hits and four runs in the top of the fourth. JCSU responded with one run in the bottom of the inning. Junior outfielder

Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, NY) from third base with a bunt single.
The Golden Bulls erupted with six runs in the second inning to take a 7-4 lead over Morris. Peralta took the mound to pitch after the first and held Morris scoreless. JCSU produced two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to close out the initial contest. The game was called in the fifth due to the NCAA eight-run rule.
Peralta is credited with the 13-4 game one win at the mound. In 15 at-bats, Peralta allowed no runs, struck out five, and only gave up four hits. She also had three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored as a batter. JCSU had 11 RBIs total in the first game.
Game two was a continuation of dominance for the Golden Bulls. JCSU scored 10 runs in three innings, including a six-run fourth inning. Both teams failed to score in the first. Morris allowed three runs in the second inning, one run in the fourth, and ultimately succumbed after the fourth inning disaster.
Peralta earned a shutout victory for game two and only allowed two hits. She also struck out four and walked just one batter.
Senior shortstop
Alexandra Buckley (Charlotte, NC) had three hits off three at-bats. Byrd tallied three RBIs and a run scored for the second game.
With the regular season coming to a close, JCSU will travel to Columbia, SC for their last road game of the year against Benedict College. First pitch in this non-conference is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Benedict. The Golden Bulls continue to fine tune as they prepare for the 2013 CIAA Softball Championships in Petersburg, VA.
