JCSU avoid sweep with doubles win

Results vs. Virginia State

Petersburg, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's tennis team fell 5-1 to the No. 2 seed Virginia State University in the first round of the CIAA Men's Tennis Tournament on the campus of Virginia State University on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

The combination of sophomore Tobias Whitley (Largo, MD) and freshman Sharif Axam (Atlanta, GA) topped Delwin McCurdy and Denzel Harris in number three doubles for the only JCSU match point. Whitley and Axam were victorious 8-5 in the set. The Trojans won number one and two doubles as well as number two, four, and five singles to advance.

The Golden Bulls finished third in the Southern Division during the regular season and ended their season at 4-19 overall.
