First time honor at JCSU during outdoor season

New Orleans, LA – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced junior Samantha Elliott (Kingston, Jamaica) as the Division II Women's National Track Athlete of the Week. This is a first time honor for Elliott and second for a recipient of Johnson C. Smith University. National Athletes of the Week honors were implemented this season.

Elliott earned the Division II women's award following a weekend at the Raleigh Relays that saw her win the 400-meter hurdles in 57.52, giving her a share of the 2014 collegiate lead with Texas' Danielle Dowie.

Elliott already occupies the No. 2 spot on the all-time DII performers list. She also ran legs of the Division II-leading 4×100 relay and the Division's second-fastest 4×400 relay.

JCSU track and field will head to Auburn, Alabama to compete in the 2014 Auburn Invitational held April 4-5th.
