Men's Tennis Blanked by GRU-Augusta

Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 2, 2015) - The Johnson C. Smith men's tennis team fell to visiting Georgia Regents University-Augusta 9-0 in the first match of the spring season on Sunday afternoon.

At No. 1 singles, GRU's Roman Ferreira knocked off JCSU senior Darrell Sawyer (Cincinnati, Ohio), 6-0, 6-0. The Golden Bulls' Sharif Axam (Atlanta, Ga.) fell at No. 2 singles to Thomas Sevel, also by a 6-0, 6-0 count.

At No. 3 singles, Tarick Miller (Atlanta, Ga.) also fell 6-0, 6-0 in his match with Roman Brunie. Bradley Girgorio (New York, NY) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Moritz Gehlhaus at No. 4 singles and at No. 5, Tuan Nguyen also fell by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Hazel Vazquez-Xaca (Pageland, S.C.) rounded out the singles matches at No. 6, falling 6-0, 6-0 to GRU's Arthur Andrade.

JCSU also fell in all three doubles matches by the score of 8-0.

The Golden Bulls (0-3) will travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba on Feb. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
