JCSU Wins Two Games on Final Day of CIAA Roundup

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Raleigh, N.C. (March 22, 2015) –  The Johnson C. Smith softball team completed the second day of the CIAA Softball Roundup with wins over Virginia State and Lincoln.  JCSU fell to Elizabeth City State in the second game of the afternoon.

In game one against Virginia State, JCSU took the 8-0 win in six innings.  The Golden Bulls struck first in the bottom of the third when Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jacked her first homer of the season to make it 1-0.

Virginia State would put runners on first and third in the fifth inning but could not scratch home a run.

In the Golden Bull sixth, JCSU exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run blast by Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) to extend the lead to 4-0.  Peralta came through with a double in the next at-bat and would later score on a bunt single by Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, Ga.). JCSU would end the game in the sixth when Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) singled down the right field line, scoring Imani Scott (Atlanta, Ga.) to make it 8-0.

In game two, JCSU lost a heartbreaker to Elizabeth City State, 5-4.  The Vikings scored the game-winner on a single in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.  JCSU committed five errors in the game, with four of ECSU's five runs being unearned.

In the final game of the day against Lincoln, JCSU erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way, taking the 15-3 win.

Against the Lions, JCSU rapped out 13 hits with Tia Mahoney, Jocelyn Hernandez and Jasmin Harris each with two.  One of Hernandez' hits was a two run homer in the first inning  Maci Black as she went 3-for-3 on the afternoon to lead all hitters.

With the win over Lincoln, JCSU improves to 4-10 overall, 2-4 in CIAA play.
