Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Salisbury, N.C. (April 12, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith softball team scored 27 runs and shut out Livingstone to take a CIAA softball doubleheader at Jaycee Optimist Park in Salisbury, N.C. on Sunday afternoon.

In game one, JCSU got on the board in the second inning when Monique Jefferson West Hills, Ca.) doubled to left center.  After advancing to third on a Maci Black (Greensboro, N.C.) groundout, Miranda Ricafrente (Jacksonville, Fla.) delivered the RBI, driving in Jefferson for the 1-0 lead.

JCSU struck for three runs in the third, making it 4-0.  JCSU struck for three hits in the frame, the first coming on a Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) RBI single that drove in Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, Ga.).  Sophomore Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) would get an RBI followed by another Jefferson RBI single.

JCSU put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on four hits.  Livingstone would help the JCSU offense by committing four errors in the inning.  JCSU pitcher Victoria Lopez (San Diego, Ca.) cruised through the Blue Bear lineup, only allowing two hits and striking out six to take the win.

Hernandez, Hasty and Jefferson each had two RBI to lead the Golden Bulls with Jefferson going 3-for-3 .  JCSU was also aggressive on the bases, swiping five bags in the game.

In game two, JCSU exploded offensively, scoring in every inning to take the 18-0 win to complete the sweep.

The Golden Bulls, up 1-0 after the first, scored four runs in the second, third and fourth innings and added five runs in the fifth to take the win.

The highlight in game two came when Anderson delivered a three-run, inside-the-park home run.  She would lace the first offering from Blue Bear pitcher Alexis Smoot to the right center gap.  The sharply hit ball squirted between two Livingstone outfielders and rolled to the fence, allowing Anderson to race home.

JCSU would add five more runs in the fifth, thanks to singles from Hasty and Black.  Anderson would get another RBI by singling up the middle.  Hernandez would deliver a single, scoring Anderson for the 17-0 lead.  JCSU's last run came when Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) scored on a Livingstone error.

Starting pitcher Melissa Vierra (Tracy, Ca.) scattered three hits and struck out three to earn the win. Relief pitcher Mariah Harris (New Bern, N.C.) would strike out two, including the final two Livingstone batters to end the game.

Cabrisha Anderson led JCSU, going 4-for-4 with four RBI.  Mahoney finished 5-for-5 with three RBI while Ricafrente finished 3-for-3 with three RBI.  Hernandez, Stacy Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Jasmin Harris (Stone Mountain, Ga.) each had two RBI for JCSU.

The 18-run outburst is the most runs scored by JCSU since a 19-9 win over Elizabeth City State on Feb. 16, 2013.

The win improves JCSU to 11-11 overall, 6-4 in CIAA play.  The Golden Bulls stand at 4-0 in Southern Division play and will travel to Raleigh to take on St. Augustine's on Monday, April 13.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Buffaloe Road Park.
