Charlotte, N.C. (April 20, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith softball team dropped a pair of road games at Winston-Salem State.  The Golden Bulls dropped game one 5-3, and game two 9-2.

In game one, JCSU jumped on top 2-0 in the second inning.  After a Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) single, Maci Black (Greensboro, N.C.) connected on a double to center field, moving Hasty to third.  A WSSU error allowed Hasty to score, putting JCSU up 1-0.  The Rams would walk the bases loaded, then Cabrisha Anderson (Atlanta, Ga.) was hit by a pitch, bringing home Black to make it 2-0.

The Rams took the lead with three runs in the home half of the third inning.  WSSU strung together three singles, then scored on a wild pitch.  Another single made it 3-2 WSSU.

The Rams added two more in the fifth inning, making it 5-2.  JCSU cut the lead to 5-3 in the seventh inning via a Victoria Lopez (San Diego, Ca.) homer, her first of the year, but JCSU could not build on the momentum, falling by the 5-3 final.

Lopez finished game one going 1-for-3 with the homer while teammates Hasty and Black also finishing 1-for-3.

Lopez took the pitching loss, dropping to 6-6 on the year, while striking out five WSSU batters.

In game two, WSSU jumped ahead 4-0 in the first and never trailed.  The Rams also added one run in the third to make it 5-0.

The Golden Bulls got on the board in the fourth inning via a Hasty home run, her seventh of the year to make it 5-1.  JCSU also scored a run in the fifth inning to make it 5-2, thanks to an Imani Scott (Atlanta, Ga.) RBI single that brought in Monique Jefferson (West Hills, Ca.) who reached earlier on an error.

The Rams struck for four more runs in the sixth inning and held off JCSU in the seventh to take the 9-2 win.

Hasty finishes 2-for-2 in game two, with an RBI on her solo homer.  Scott and Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) finished 1-for-3 in game two.

The loss drops JCSU to 11-15 overall, 6-8 in CIAA play.  The Golden Bulls also stand at 4-4 in Southern Divisional play.

The Golden Bulls will close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 22 with a Senior Day doubleheader against Fayetteville State.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00
