JCSU Completes Day One at NCAA Track & Field Championships

Allendale, Mich. (May 21, 2015) – The Johnson C. Smith track & field teams had two individuals and one relay team advance to event finals after completion of day one at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Michigan.

Freshman Michane Rickets (Kingston, Jamaica) broke the JCSU record he set in the long jump just two weeks ago when he leaped to a mark of 7.49m, earning him a sixth-place finish.

Junior Waynee Hyman (Warwick, N.Y) advanced to the finals in the 400m by returning an eighth-place finish of 47.54.  Teammate Joshua Cunningham (Toronto, Ontario) also competed in the 400m, returning an 11th place finish of 47.91.

Patrick Campbell (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 13th place with a 53.65.

Rounding out the first day, the JCSU 4x100 relay team of David Ellis (Katy, Tex.) Rajiv Service (Trelawny, Jamaica), Hyman, and Cunningham qualified for the finals after returning a fifth-place time of 40.46.

In women's action, Tovea Jenkins (St. James, Jamaica) was the only JCSU athlete in action on day one. Jenkins posted a third-place qualifying time of 54.16 in the 400m preliminaries.
