JCSU Softball Drops Doubleheader at Anderson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Anderson, S.C. (March 13, 2016) – Homestanding Anderson University rapped out a 23-hit attack against the Johnson C. Smith Unversity softball team as they swept a doubleheade, 12-1 and 10-1 on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
 
The win improves the Trojans to 19-5 on the season while JCSU fell to 1-7 on the year.
 
In game one, Anderson sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring eight of its 12 runs in the first frame.
Leadoff batter Carli Hurtado went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles and a triple while freshman Kasey Grant went 2-for-2 while recording her first career home run.

JCSU's lone run came in the top of the first as Monique Jefferson (West Hills, Ca.) drew a bases loaded walk that forced in Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.), who had a lead-off single for the Golden Bulls.  Junior Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) had a double to left field following Hernandez' single that placed runners on second on third before
Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) singled to load the bases.

Anderson would then add a pair of runs in the second and third innings to take the 12-1 win in five innings.

Hernandez led JCSU at the plate in the opening game, going 1-for-3 and a run scored while Hasty, Archibald and Melissa Vierra (Tracy, Ca.) each finished 1-for-2.

Game two saw the Trojans continue their offensive onslaught, as they hammered out 10 hits and benefitted from seven JCSU walks en route to the 10-1 win.

JCSU would get an RBI single from Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) that scored Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) in the fourth inning to break up the shutout.

Archibald finished 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead JCSU offensively in game two.

The Golden Bulls will start CIAA play on Friday, March 18 in the first day of the three-day CIAA Roundup in Raleigh, N.C.  JCSU faces off against Northern Division foes Chowan at 2:00 p.m. and Bowie State at 4:30 p.m.
