JCSU Softball Downs Lincoln and ECSU on Day Three of CIAA Roundup

Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. (March 20, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team earned two blowout wins over Lincoln and Elizabeth City State to complete day three of the CIAA Softball Roundup at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday.
In game one, JCSU scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 16-0 win in five innings.
Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and scored three times for the Golden Bulls.
Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) also had a big day, going 1-for-2 with and double and three RBI.
Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) and
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) also had two RBI each. Also driving in runs for JCSU were
Melissa Vierra (Tracy, Ca.),
Miranda Ricafrente (Jacksonville, Fla.) and
Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.). Vierra also secured the pitching win for JCSU, allowing just a single hit while striking out two.
In game two, Hasty and Archibald each went 3-for-4 from the plate with a double. Hasty also slammed her first home run of the season, finishing with three RBI against the Vikings, winning 12-4. In all, JCSU battered ECSU pitching by hitting six doubles in addition to Hasty's home run.
The win improves JCSU to 4-10 on the year and 3-3 in CIAA play. JCSU will return to Biddleville Park on Wednesday, March 23 for a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader against rival Livingstone. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
