JCSU Alum Waynee Hyman Joins Clayton State as Graduate Assistant

Morrow, Ga. – Thirteen-time All-American and national champion Waynee Hyman has been named as a graduate assistant for athletics administration as announced by Clayton State Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator Merlene Aitken on Tuesday, August 9. Hyman will work primarily in the areas of compliance and academics.
 
Prior to coming to Clayton State, Hyman was a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American 13 times between indoor and outdoor track and field from 2012-16. He was also a three time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection from 2013-15.
 
In outdoor track, the Warwick, N.Y. native took home eight All-American honors, including a nation-leading four in 2015. That season he those honors while being part of the NCAA Division II National Champion 4x100-meter relay team and was the 200-meter runner-up. He also achieved All-American recognition in the 400-meters and 4x400-meter relay.
 
Hyman would repeat the feat for the 4x400 meter relay and 200- and 400-meters as a senior in 2016. This followed All-American honors in the 4x400 as sophomore. During his indoor career, he was an All-American in both the 200- and 400-meters as a junior and senior and in the 4x400 as a sophomore.
 
Over the course of his career, he would go on to win an incredible 22 events and be named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Runner of the Week multiple times. Just before beginning his college career, he was also selected as a member of the Jamaica World Youth Championships Team in 2009.
 
In addition to his sterling collegiate career, Hyman was active within Johnson C. Smith, serving in multiple roles during his time with the Golden Bulls. Among those was an internship with the JCS Compliance Office from September of 2015 through May 2016.
 
In that role he helped develop compliance educational tools and resources that included newsletters and social media designed to educate coaches, student-athletes and boosters about Division II compliance.
 
Hyman also completed weekly updates through Compliance Assistant, including student-athlete eligibility checklists, financial aid and degree progress.
 
From August 2014 to November 2015, he served as a research assistant for Johnson C. Smith's Novant Heart Study and was a University life guard from September to December of 2013.
 
Outside of athletics, he has also participated in the Charlotte Hunger Walk in 2014 and 2015, volunteered with the JCS aqua fit class, was a sport medicine volunteer at the Special Olympics and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Back at home in Warwick, New York, he helped to organize a community soccer tournament in 2012 and 2013.
 
"To be able to add a young man to our department with Waynee's credentials as a student-athlete is a tremendous plus for us," said Aitken. "Not only is he a former NCAA Division II National Champion, but he has also been involved in SAAC, numerous community service efforts and has worked with compliance. We look forward to him bringing that same passion and drive everyday as a Laker."
 
A 2016 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, Hyman holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management with a minor in Sports Medicine and Physical Education.
