Hickory, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team wrapped up play at the Bear Bash hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University by dropped an 8-5 game to UVa-Wise and a 9-0 game to Concord on Sunday afternoon.

In game one against UVa-Wise, JCSU fell behind 6-0 early but responded with one run in the second and four runs in the third inning to close to within 6-5. UVa-Wise added a run in the fifth and a run in the seventh to provide the 8-5 final.


JCSU's Kaitlyn Santos (Honolulu, Hi.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, driving in one run. Junior Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) drove in two runs and went 1-for-3 on the afternoon. Seniors Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.), Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Cal.), Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) and Miranda Ricafrente (Jacksonville, Fla.) all had a hit each. Junior Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) added the other JCSU hit in the loss.

Starting pitcher Tasia Bolling (Leland, N.C.) had a rough outing in the circle, allowing six runs on four hits and fell to 0-2 with the loss.

In game two Concord, tagged the Golden Bulls for six runs in the first inning and allowed JCSU only five hits, taking the 9-0 win in five innings. Hasty finished with two hits, including a double. Hernandez, Santos and Archibald added the other hits for JCSU.

Bolling allowed seven hits and gave up seven earned runs to fall to 0-3 on the season.

The losses drop the Golden Bulls to 1-4 on the season.

JCSU returns to the field on Feb. 18 with a doubleheader at Anderson. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
