Anderson, S.C. (Feb. 18, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team fell to Anderson 10-2 and 11-3 in a nonconference doubleheader at the AU Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

IN game one, homestanding Anderson jumped on the Golden Bulls quickly, scoring four runs in the second inning, powered by back-to-back leadoff doubles. The Trojans would plate four runs in the frame to take the 4-0 lead.

JCSU would respond in the third when Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) launched her first homer of the season to left center, making it 4-1. Anderson then went on to add a run in the third and five more in the fourth to take the 10-1 lead.

In the fifth, JCSU's Victoria Lopez (San Diego, Ca.) also blasted a homer to left center, cutting the lead to 10-2. The Trojan pitcher then regrouped and sat down the next three JCSU batters to record the 10-2 win.

In game two, senior Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) delivered a two-out home run in the first to give JCSU the 1-0 lead. JCSU then surrendered two runs in the first, but reclaimed the lead in the third inning by plating two runs, making it 3-2. Following an error that allowed
Randasia Daniels (Shallotte, N.C.) to reach, Hernandez delivered a triple, scoring Daniels.

Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) would then single up the middle scoring Hernandez from third. After a Hasty flyout and Kaitlin Santos (Honoluli, Hi.) reaching on a fielder's choice,
Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) lined out to center to end the threat.

Anderson then exploded for six runs in their half of the third, making it 8-3 aided by two doubles, a JCSU error and a hit batter.

The Golden Bulls did not threaten again as Anderson added another run in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to take the 11-3 win.

The losses drop JCSU to 1-6 on the season while Anderson improves to 11-1.

The Golden Bulls will return to play on March 7 in their home openers. The Golden Bulls will complete the Feb. 4 game against Benedict that was previously halted due to darkness. JCSU will then play the Tigers in a doubleheader that is slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
