Box Score 2 Golden Bulls Offense Comes Alive as JCSU Softball Goes 2-0 in Day Three of CIAA Roundup
Charlotte, N.C. (March 19, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University offense put up 22 runs on the afternoon as JCSU swept two games on day three of the CIAA softball roundup at Nevin Park.
In game one, the Golden Bulls scored three runs in both the first and second innings and cruised to a 12-0 five-inning win over Virginia State.
Against the Trojans, JCSU freshman
Randashia Daniels (Shallotte, N.C.) drove in three runs and scored a pair on the afternoon.
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) also had a great outing against VSU, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In the circle, senior pitcher
Victoria Lopez (San Diego, Ca.) picked up her fourth win of the year by scattering three hits and striking out two in the complete game shutout.
In game two, Lincoln jumped on the Golden Bulls early and held a 2-0 lead until the fourth inning when JCSU plated three runs to take the 3-2 lead. JCSU would then push the lead to 7-2 in the fifth and then pushed across three more in the sixth to end the game with the 10-2 win.
Daniels, Lopez, and
Tasia Bolling (Leland, N.C.) each had two hits in the win over the Lions while freshman
Alexis D'Louhy (Winnabow, N.C.) had three RBI on a 1-of-3 effort from the plate.
Senior
Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) also blasted her second home run of the season in the win.
Bolling earned the win for JCSU, her third of the year, striking out seven Lion batters. Lopez also saw action late in the game and recorded five strikeouts in two innings of work.
The wins improve JCSU to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in CIAA play.
The Golden Bulls will complete the roundup with a game against Bowie State on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for Noon at Biddleville Park.
