Charlotte, N.C. (March 20, 2017) – Bowie State University scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to down the Johnson C. Smith University softball team 4-3 in a CIAA Roundup make-up game at Biddleville Park on Monday afternoon.

After spotting the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead after three complete innings, JCSU struck for a run in the fourth to cut it to 3-1. After a Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) walk and her third stolen base of the season. A wild pitch then sent Hasty to third and she would later score on a Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) groundout.

BSU would get the run back in the bottom half of the fourth to make it 3-1, but the Golden Bulls picked up a run in the fifth to cut the BSU deficit to 3-2. In the inning Alexis D'Louhy (Winnabow, N.C.) was able to reach on a BSU error and quickly found herself on second after a steal and would advance to third when freshman Randaisha Daniels (Shallotte, N.C.) singled to left field. D'Louhy would then score on a passed ball.

After a scoreless sixth inning, JCSU was able to tie the game in the seventh. Senior Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) had a leadoff single and after a D'Louhy pop out, Daniels would single, advancing Archibald to third. Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) would then reach on a fielder's choice, driving in Archibald from third to make it 3-3. JCSU was unable to push across the go-ahead run as BSU came to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

BSU ended the game quickly. After a leadoff bunt single, BSU then got a double to left center for the game-winner, dropping JCSU by a 4-3 final.

JCSU's Daniels finished 3-for-3 from the plate and collected her third double of the season in the loss. JCSU also got an RBI each from Greene and Hernandez.

Senior pitcher Victoria Lopez (San Diego, Ca.) dropped to 4-4 on the season as she allowed four runs on eight hits. She also had four strikeouts in the loss.
