Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JCSU Softball Swept by St. Augustine's in CIAA Southern Divisional Doubleheader

Raleigh, N.C. (April 1, 2017) – Homestanding St. Augustine's University used a strong pitching performance in game one followed by an offensive explosion in game two to sweep Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA Southern Division softball doubleheader at Lions Park in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, JCSU spotted SAU a 1-0 lead in the second inning and then was able to knot the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning after freshman Randaisa Daniels (Shallotte, N.C.) reached on an error. Daniels then reached second after a Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) walk. After a passed ball, Daniels and Hasty then advanced to second and third. After Kaitlin Santos (Honolulu, Hi.) lined out, Daniels would score on an error to make it 1-1.

After neither team was able to score in the fifth nor sixth innings, SAU reached on a JCSU error to start the seventh, then stole second base. JCSU then forced a pop up and a fly out, but allowed a walk on the next batter, putting runners on first and second. The Falcons then managed a single to center field to plate the walk-off run, taking the 2-1 win.

In game two, the Falcons spotted JCSU the early 1-0 lead but blew the game open with a nine=run outburst in the second inning followed by a 12-run fourth inning on their way to a 23-3 five-inning win.  The Falcons roughed up JCSU pitching to the tune of 21 hits, nine of which went for extra bases.

The losses drop JCSU to 9-12 overall, 4-4 in CIAA play and 0-2 in divisional play.  JCSU looks to get back on track with a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Shaw.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
