JCSU Softball Gets Underway This Weekend at Queens Invite
Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team will being its 2018 season by playing in the Queens Invite this upcoming weekend, Feb. 9-10.
The Golden Bulls will take to the field on Friday, Feb. 9 at 11:45 a.m. to face host Queens. Later in the afternoon, JCSU will play West Liberty at 2:00 p.m. at Park Road Park in Charlotte.
The Golden Bulls return six players from a year ago and have two returning seniors playing in their fourth season with the Gold and Blue. Senior
Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) led JCSU in RBI last season with 27, was third in doubles (7) and was first in triples (3) while finishing with a .293 average.
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) also returns after hitting for .292 last season. She was second in runs scored (35), knocked seven doubles and is the top returner in total bases (47).
Defensively, JCSU will have to replace reliable starting pitcher
Victoria Lopez, who graduated last season. Stepping into the circle for JCSU this season will be freshman
Daijaa Williams (Miami, Fla.), Tatyana Mars (Fayetteville, N.C.) and junior transfer
Sanae Nakoa (Maui, Hawai'i). Also returning to the JCSU pitching rotation is sophomore
Tasia Bolling (Leland, N.C.).
Mahoney will anchor and infield with several new faces. Newcomers expected to contribute defensively are transfer
Evenlyn Arguelles (Deltona, Fla.), returner
Randasia Daniels (Shallotte, N.C.) and returning utility player
Kaitlin Santos (Honolulu, Hawai'i). Alexis D'Louhy (Winnabow, N.C.) will also contribute in the outfield and base paths with her speed while
Shenice Harrison (Leland, N.C.) will also patrol the outfield for JCSU.
