Box Score 2 JCSU Softball Salvages Doubleheader Split With Shaw
Charlotte, N.C. (April 11, 2018) – The homestanding Johnson C. Smith University softball team scored eight runs in the third inning and went on to a 13-4, five-inning win over visiting Shaw University to split a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader at Biddleville Park on Wednesday afternoon.
With the teams tied at 3-3, the Golden Bulls offense exploded for eight runs on seven hits to take the commanding 11-3 lead. JCSU started the inning hot as

Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) had back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and second.
Sanae Nakoa (Maui, Hawai'i) was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for JCSU.
Junior
Kaitlin Santos (Honolulu, Hawai'i) roped a two-run double down the left field line, making it 5-3. Â
Shenice Harrison (Leland, N.C.) delivered a two-run single and Mahoney later doubled, driving in two more runs.
JCSU then added two more runs in the fourth when
Tatyana Mars reached on a fielders choice, which earned her two RBI.
JCSU surrendered a one run in the fifth but Shaw could muster nothing else, as JCSU took the 13-4 win.
In game one, JCSU held a 4-0 lead after the third inning, but the Bears fought back, scoring a run in the fourth and plating a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to go up 5-4.
In the seventh, JCSU threatened to tie the game. With runners on second and third with two outs, Bears pitcher Frances Perry forced a popup to end the game.
With the split, JCSU improves to 6-14 overall, 4-6 in the CIAA and 1-3 in the Southern Division while Shaw now stands at 9-13 overall, 7-3 in league play and 3-1 in divisional play.
JCSU continues their homestand by hosting Winston-Salem State on Saturday, April 14. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 10:00 a.m. at Biddleville Park.
