JCSU Softball Sweeps Rival Livingstone
Charlotte, N.C. (April 21, 2018) – Freshman
Daijaa Williams tossed her first career no-hitter in game two of Johnson C. Smith University's doubleheader sweep of rival Livingstone at Biddleville Park on Saturday afternoon.
Williams, from Miami, Fla., handcuffed the Blue Bear batters by striking out eight and allowing no walks. Offensively, JCSU jumped on Livingstone early, plating 10 runs in the first inning, with senior
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) registering an inside-the-park homer after belting a 2-1 offering to left field. The ball bounced off the base of the fence and away from the Livingstone left fielder, allowing Mahoney to race around the bases for her second homer of the season.
By the end of the inning, JCSU had taken the 10-0 lead. JCSU then added a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth innings and Williams recorded three strikeouts in the fifth to give JCSU the sweep and the 16-0 win.
In the game, each JCSU batter recorded at least one hit, with
Tatyana Mars going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Senior
Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.) scored three times from the leadoff spot while Mahoney,
Kaitlin Santos (Honolulu, Hawai'i), and
Alexis D'Louhy (Winnabow, N.C.) each providing two RBI.
In game one, the Golden Bulls jumped on the Blue Bears early, posting seven runs in the first. Freshman
Tatyana Mars (Fayetteville, N.C.) blasted her first homer of the season, a two-run shot over the left center fence.
Leading 7-0, JCSU added four more runs in the second and two in the third to go up 13-0. JCSU relief pitcher
Tasia Bolling (Leland, N.C.) retired the final six Livingstone batters in order, to send the Golden Bulls to the 13-0 win.
With the sweep, the Golden Bulls finish the season with a 9-17 overall record, 7-9 in CIAA play and 4-6 in the Southern Division.
