Box Score CHARLOTTE - The No. 8 seeded Johnson C. Smith University State softball team falls to the No. 1 seed Claflin University with a 10-1 defeat on Tuesday in the CIAA Softball quarterfinals in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
The Golden Bulls combined for three total hits; including one RBI.
JCSU struck first to a 1-0 lead after the first inning, with an RBI single to score Tykia Garr-Carter. In the bottom of the third the Panthers tied the game at 1-1.
Through three innings, the Panthers added five more in the fourth and four more to end the game on the eight-run mercy rule.
The Golden Bulls end the season with a 10-15 record,
Alissa Alvarado pitched four innings of play. She faced 28 batters, striking out four on 10 hits and 10 runs. Clafin advances to the semifinals of the CIAA Softball Championships.
