NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Johnson C. Smith University women's track and field team turned in several solid performances across sprints, relays and field events at the meet, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 4x400 meter relay and multiple top-15 individual efforts at the HBCU Showcase.

Freshman Janya Barnes led the Golden Bulls on the track, placing ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.79 seconds. Barnes also anchored the 4x400 relay alongside Abigail Wicks, Gabrielle Maye and Paris Brown, helping the quartet finish second overall in 3:50.14, a time that met the NCAA Division II standard.

In the short sprints, Athauna Williams paced JCSU in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, running 7.87 seconds to place 24th overall. Nijah Lewis (7.88), Gabrielle Maye (7.91) and Jaeda Davis (7.95) followed closely behind, while freshman Skye Spencer-Layne clocked 7.98 in the unseeded section.

Davis and Barnes continued their strong meet in the 200 meters, finishing 14th (25.31) and 17th (25.38), respectively. Abigail Wicks added a 12th place showing in the 400 meters with a time of 58.24.

In the hurdles, Maye led the way by placing 12th in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries in 8.89 seconds, with Spencer-Layne finishing 15th in 9.02.

The field events were highlighted by Spencer-Layne's fifth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.63 meters. Sahlay Reid posted the team's best triple jump mark at 10.65 meters, while Alesia Sylverain competed in both throws, recording a season-best 13.39 meters in the weight throw.
