Johnson C. Smith drops twin bill to Mars Hill falling 23-4, 7-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University fell to Mars Hill University in a softball doubleheader Saturday, dropping the opener 23-4 before losing the second game 7-0.

The Golden Bulls (4-12) struggled to contain Mars Hill's offense in Game 1 as the Lions scored nine runs in the first inning and added five more in both the second and third. Mars Hill finished with 20 hits in the five-inning contest.

JCSU broke through in the fourth inning when Aniylah Lane delivered a two run double to drive in DazeJah Lanham and Skylar Bledsoe. Shakiyla Pickens later added an RBI groundout to bring home Logan Masinky.

Skylar Bledsoe and Sydney Bledsoe each recorded hits for the Golden Bulls, who finished with three hits in the game.

Tiera Arnold (0-3) took the loss for Johnson C. Smith after allowing 14 runs, 13 earned, in two innings. Jahzira Hogan pitched three innings of relief.

The Golden Bulls were held scoreless in the second game as Mars Hill completed the sweep.

Johnson C. Smith collected four hits in the nightcap, including singles from Lanham, Skylar Bledsoe, Aniylah Lane and Arnold. The Golden Bulls also drew four walks but were unable to push a run across.

Mars Hill took the lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Hodges and an RBI double from Jessica Senn. The Lions added three more runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh.

Logan Masinky (0-4) took the loss for Johnson C. Smith, allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings. Hogan again appeared in relief, giving up one run over the final two innings.

Mars Hill (17-5) finished the day with 31 hits across the two games, while Johnson C. Smith totaled seven.
