Johnson C. Smith drops softball doubleheader to Southern Wesleyan

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University struggled to slow Southern Wesleyan's offense Monday, falling 20-0 in the opener before dropping the second game 10-2 in a softball doubleheader.

The Golden Bulls (4-14) were limited offensively in Game 1, finishing with two hits while Southern Wesleyan (14-6) capitalized on defensive miscues to build a large lead.

Southern Wesleyan broke the game open with an 11-run second inning, taking advantage of several Johnson C. Smith errors and timely hits. Megan Ware drove in five runs for the Warriors, while Reagan Fulcher added a two-run double and Marissa Moreland contributed a two-run double later in the game.

Sydney Bledsoe and Jahzira Hogan recorded the only hits for Johnson C. Smith, with Hogan adding a double.

Bailey Throckmorton (1-0) earned the win after striking out eight over four innings, while Alexis Grizzle worked the final inning for the save. Tiera Arnold (0-4) took the loss for Johnson C. Smith.

The Golden Bulls found more offensive rhythm in the second game, collecting five hits and scoring twice in the fourth inning.

Trailing 8-0, Johnson C. Smith got on the board when Aniylah Lane delivered a two-run double that drove in Skylar Bledsoe and Taylor Bullard. DazeJah Lanham led the Golden Bulls at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a double, while Lane, Bullard and Skylar Bledsoe each added hits.

Southern Wesleyan built its lead early with two runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Brandy Smith later extended the advantage with a three-run home run in the fourth inning as part of a four-run frame.

Harley Hoffman (1-0) earned the win for the Warriors after allowing two runs on five hits over four innings. Arnold (0-5) was charged with the loss for Johnson C. Smith, allowing eight runs over four innings.
