Johnson C. Smith Sweeps Doubleheader Over Johnson & Wales–Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University softball team swept a doubleheader against Johnson & Wales–Charlotte on Wednesday  at the Friendship Sportsplex, winning 7-4 in game one and 9-7 in game two.

In the opener, Johnson C. Smith (7-25) broke through in the second inning and never trailed. Jahzira Hogan put JCSU on the board with an RBI single, and the Golden Bulls added three runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on multiple unearned runs to extend the lead.

Skylar Bledsoe provided the biggest swing of the game in the fifth inning with a three-run home run to center field, pushing the advantage to 7-1. Bledsoe finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Johnson & Wales–Charlotte (5-18) mounted a late push, scoring twice in the seventh inning behind doubles from Mai Tellez-Martinez and Seven Hope, but fell short.
Hogan (2-6) earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) over 6.2 innings with five strikeouts. Katie Murphy (0-5) took the loss.

In Game 2, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Johnson C. Smith responded with a five-run second inning to seize control. Jasmine Jackson delivered a two-run single, and Hogan added an RBI triple during the rally.

Johnson & Wales–Charlotte battled back, tying the game at 5-5 by the sixth inning. However, JCSU answered with four runs in the seventh, highlighted by another clutch hit from Jackson, who drove in two runs.

Jackson led the Golden Bulls offensively in Game 2, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Hogan had a perfect 5-for-5 performance with two RBIs. Aniylah Lane added three hits in the win.

The Wildcats continued to fight, with Tellez-Martinez hitting a solo home run in the seventh and Kaydence Hassell adding an RBI double, but the rally came up short.

Logan Masinky (3-8) earned the complete-game victory, allowing seven runs on 11 hits. Tellez-Martinez (4-7) was charged with the loss.

Johnson C. Smith combined for 16 runs across the two games, using late inning execution and consistent offensive pressure to secure the sweep.
