Ming advances to the semifinals in the 400m

Kingston, Jamaica – Johnson C. Smith University junior track and field standout Akino Ming (St. Thomas, Jamaica) has advanced to the semifinals of the 400 meter dash event at the 2012 Jamaica National Senior Championships held inside National Stadium. Ming recorded a time of 46.42 to qualify for further competition.

Ming finished second running out of the third of six heats. The Jamaican national champion Jermaine Gonzales took first by three tenths of a second with a time of 46.39. Junior Winston Brown (St. Andrew, Jamaica) placed sixth out of heat six with a time of 47.46. Brown just missed qualifying for the semifinals by three spots.

Ming will compete in the 400m semifinals on Saturday, June 30th at 6:25 p.m. (EST). There will be three heats in the semifinals. The top two finishers from each heat, plus the next two best times will advance to the 400m finals. The finals will take place on Sunday, July 1st at 5:15 p.m. (EST).

JCSU alum Leford Green will compete in the 400m hurdles finals on Friday, June 29th at 7:30 p.m. (EST). Green qualified for the finals by winning his heat in the preliminaries with a time of 50.57. There were three heats and Green had the third fastest time overall.

2011 JCSU graduate Shermaine Williams will be competing in the women's 100m hurdles on Sunday, July 1st at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
