JCSU came up short in the fifth set to drop their second match this season to Morris
Charlotte, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball falls to 0-2 this season against Morris College after a 3-2 loss Friday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium. The Lady Golden Bulls move to 3-18 in the overall standings.
The Hornets came out very aggressive in the first game, tallying 10 kills with a .353 hitting percentage. Morris took the first set 25-12, but J.C. Smith won the second set 25-18 to even the game 1-1. The third game went to JCSU 27-25 to put them ahead 2-1 in the match.
Morris easily won the fourth game 25-15 and closed out the match 15-12 in the fifth set. Staci Holmes led the way for MC with 19 kills and seven digs. Ebony Murchison had 16 kills, five assists, and five digs, while Jasmyne Smalls served up 15 assists.
Junior middle hitter
Mauranda Elliott (Tabor City, NC) and freshman middle hitter
Jennifer Williams (Mitchellville, MD) both had 10 kills. Elliott also had a match-high seven digs. Sophomore setter
Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) pitched in a match-high 19 assists and two digs.
The Lady Golden Bulls next opponent will be Shaw University on Tuesday, October 6th in Brayboy Gymnasium. The first serve in this conference match-up is set begin at 6:00 pm.
