Charlotte, NC - Optimism filled Irwin Belk Complex Saturday afternoon as JCSU held a 12-7 lead over Fayetteville State University at halftime, but the Broncos recovered in the second half with a solid running attack for a 30-12 victory. Johnson C. Smith moves to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA, while FSU improves to 5-3 in the overall standings and 4-1 in the conference.

McGirt by officially dedicating the football field in his honor as well as recognizing the 1969 CIAA Champion Golden Bulls team during their 2009 Homecoming. The Golden Bulls' defense forced a safety and junior place kicker
Julius Wright (Fort Worth, TX) kicked a career-high 52 yard field goal to put JCSU ahead 12-7. In the second half, Richard Medlin scored two touchdowns on short yardage runs. Medlin finished the game with 158 yards on the ground off 21 carries. Calvin Harris toted the bulk of the load with 26 carries for 198 rushing yards and a fourth quarter touchdown.
