J.C. Smith swept by Blue Bears this season

Salisbury, NC - The Lady Golden Bulls volleyball team was edged out by CIAA divisional rival Livingstone College 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-8) Thursday evening inside Trent Gymnasium. The loss drops JCSU to 3-25 in the overall standings, 0-10 in the conference, and concludes their conference and road schedule.

Junior defensive specialist Rashondae Henderson (Caruthersville, MO) had a team-high 11 kills with five digs and two service aces. Junior middle hitter Mauranda Elliott (Tabor City, NC) finished with nine kills and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) served up 19 assists and 13 digs.

Lashaundra Ferguson and Michelle Thompson led the offensive attack for the Lady Blue Bears with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Shannon Allen dished out 31 assists and 10 digs in the five-set Livingstone victory.

The first three sets had the identical score of 25-22; Livingstone won the first set, but J.C. Smith took the second and third sets. LC tied the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set and eventually closed out the contest in the fifth 15-8.

Johnson C. Smith will play in their 2009 season finale at home versus Paine College on Saturday, October 31st. Match-play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am. The Lady Golden Bulls will honor their seniors and acknowledge breast cancer awareness month by wearing athletic socks with pinks ribbons.
