Charlotte, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team suffered a 54-38 conference loss at the hands of Elizabeth City State University Monday evening in front of their Brayboy Gymnasium crowd. The Golden Bulls fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while ECSU improves to 2-1 and 1-1 in the CIAA.

After the first two minutes, JCSU trailed for the remainder of the contest. The Golden Bulls shot 29.4% from the floor (15-51) and turned the ball over 25 times. The Vikings took advantage by outscoring JCSU 26-15 off turnovers.

Three Vikings finished in double figures, including Trent Bivens with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Price dropped 14 points and Marquie Cooke had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, NC) was the top producer for the Golden Bulls. Hollis had 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks off the bench. Senior forward James Dillard (Apex, NC) followed with eight points, five boards, and five blocks.

Elizabeth City State converted on 12 of their 19 free throw attempts and beat J.C. Smith 16-5 in second chance points.

"We have a lot to work on," says JCSU head coach Steve Joyner, Sr. "Right now we're weak on the perimeter and we're not making smart decisions with the basketball."

JCSU will take a small Thanksgiving break before returning to the court on Saturday, November 28th against Lincoln (PA) University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm inside Manuel Rivero Hall.
